You know you're a Coach's wife if...

Being a Coach's wife is a whole different lifestyle than most can imagine.  I can't think of any other profession where it sucks your entire family in and everything you do as a family revolves around the husband's job (other than maybe a minister).  I even know coaching families that have planned the birth of their children around football or basketball season.

When Lance got his first coaching job, I'll never forget the A.D. coming up to me, introducing himself and saying, "you know, being the Coach's wife is the hardest job of anyone on the field."  I didn't know at the time how true that statement was.  Luckily, there are plenty of us Coach's wives out there and it bonds us together like nothing else.  We even have our own special club (thecoachswife.com)!

Anyway, all that to say, I found this list of "you know you're a Coach's wife if" and I found myself laughing and checking them off as I read through it, so I thought I'd post it here (my comments in blue).  Enjoy!

1. You think it’s completely normal for your husband to be hired on Monday and move 10 hours away by Wednesday.  (CHECK - although it was only 4 hours)

2. You can pack up a 4 bedroom house in 24 hours while taking care of your children.   (CHECK - and add being pregnant to the list)

3. You have no problem openly admitting that your husband has been fired 5 times.  (Luckily, I can't check this one....yet)

4. The term G.A. brings back memories of ramen noodles and stealing toilet paper from the coaches office.  (not yet)

5. A good year doesn’t mean your husband got a raise, it means he didn’t get fired!  (CHECK)

6. You’ve removed "For Sale" signs from your yard that weren’t placed there by yourself or your realtor.  (not yet)

7. You spend as much money feeding players as you do feeding your own kids.  (CHECK)

8. You’ve loaded your kids into the suburban, van, or SUV up at 10:00 pm so they could go say goodnight to their dad.  (CHECK)

9. You’ve received a birthday or anniversary gift that was ordered or purchased by a secretary, GA, or random member of the football staff. (if you’re lucky enough to get a gift at all) (Luckily my birthday is not during football or basketball season, so can't check this one).

10. You understand the BCS point system in its entirety. (CHECK)

11. The letters OC, DC, TE, RB, WR, OL, DL, etc. make perfect sense when used in everyday conversation. (CHECK)

12. You plan Christmas around bowl games or HS playoff games. (CHECK)

13. When asked “where are you from?”, you hesitate for more than 30 seconds.  (CHECK)

14. You’ve memorized the procedure for filing for a “change of address” (CHECK)

15. You love your husband and the game of football regardless of the stress it ads to your life! (DOUBLE CHECK)

And a couple of my own:

16.  You are in labor with your first born and your husband needs you to hold on just one more hour while he discusses "important stuff" with the A.D. (sorry Honey, you'll never live this one down :)

17.  You have to buy a whole new wardrobe every time your husband changes schools, because suddenly everything is the wrong color.

Hi Ronni. You don't know me. My husband Todd and Lance are friends from Camp LT. Todd sent me the link to see the pics of your sweet new baby. And, because I think blogs are the coolest thing ever I had to read! My husband is a coach, too and this was funny. I've never seen this before and definitely have experienced some of those things. My addition would be that coaching school has nothing to do with school or learning. My husband left me 32 weeks pregnant the day I was out of the hospital from major surgery and basically on bed rest with 2 kids under the age of 5 because he HAD to be at coaching school. LOL. But, yep, I know all too well about the "important stuff" that goes on in the AD office! Can't wait to meet you sometime soon. ~amy
